Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 May 2025
This Privacy Policy explains how Silver Footfalls (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use our website at silverfootfalls.com (the “Site”). We are based in Scotland, United Kingdom, and this policy is written in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
1. Who we are
Silver Footfalls is an independent fiction platform offering AI-assisted stories for purchase and reading online. For data protection purposes, Silver Footfalls is the data controller. If you have any questions about this policy or your personal data, you can contact us at: admin@silverfootfalls.com.
2. What information we collect
We collect only what is necessary to provide the service. Specifically:
- Account information — when you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, display name, and profile picture from Google. We store these to identify your account.
- Purchase history — we record which chapters or content you have purchased so we can give you access to them.
We do not collect your home address, phone number, or any other personal details beyond those listed above.
3. Cookies and tracking
We currently use only the cookies that are strictly necessary to operate the Site:
- Authentication cookies — set by Google Sign-In so that you remain logged in between visits. Without these, you would be signed out every time you close the browser.
- Session cookies — small temporary files that keep your session secure while you browse the Site.
We do not currently use any analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking cookies. This policy will be updated before any such cookies are introduced.
4. Payments
All payments are handled by trusted third-party payment processors. We currently use:
- Stripe — Stripe Privacy Policy
- Other payment providers — additional processors may be added in future. This policy will be updated when they are, and each provider’s privacy policy will be linked here.
We never see, receive, or store your payment card number, CVV, or any other card details. Those are entered directly on the payment provider’s secure page and handled entirely by them. We receive only a confirmation that a payment was successful and a reference number.
5. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account
- Give you access to content you have purchased
- Respond to support requests or enquiries
- Comply with our legal obligations under UK law
Our legal basis for processing your personal data is:
- Contract — processing is necessary to provide the service you signed up for (account management, access to purchased content).
- Legitimate interests — keeping the Site secure and preventing fraud.
- Legal obligation — where we are required to retain records for tax or legal compliance purposes.
6. How long we keep your data
We keep your account information for as long as your account remains active. If you ask us to delete your account, we will remove your personal information within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain certain records (for example, purchase records for tax purposes, which we keep for 7 years in line with HMRC requirements).
7. Sharing your information
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. We share data only as follows:
- Google — to provide sign-in functionality. Google’s use of data is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.
- Payment processors — as described in Section 4 above.
- Legal requirements — if we are required by law or a court order to disclose your information.
8. Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights in relation to your personal data:
- Right of access — you can ask us what data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Right to erasure — you can ask us to delete your personal data (“right to be forgotten”).
- Right to restrict processing — you can ask us to limit how we use your data.
- Right to data portability — you can ask for a copy of your data in a machine-readable format.
- Right to object — you can object to processing based on legitimate interests.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at admin@silverfootfalls.com. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
9. Data security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. Our Site is served over HTTPS, and access to our systems is restricted to authorised personnel only. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take this responsibility seriously and review our security practices regularly.
10. Children
The Site contains mature content and is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with their data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
11. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our practices change — for example, when we introduce analytics or additional payment providers. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
12. Contact
If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or your personal data, please contact us at: admin@silverfootfalls.com.
